The Town of Beech Mountain provides water throughout the Town and sewer service to the majority of building sites. Where sewer is not available, a sanitary septic system would be required, for which a permit is required from the Appalachian District Health Department, Route 5, Box 199, Boone, NC 28607, 828/264-4995. The Town Water and Sewer Use Ordinance requires the use of Town water and/or sewer if it is available to the property within 200 feet.
The Town uses chlorine as a disinfectant in its water treatment during most of the year. During some summer months, however, the Town uses chloramines (a combination of chlorine and ammonia) to comply with State and Federal drinking water standards. While there is no evident difference in taste or color, persons on dialysis or with other special pretreated needs and tropical fish owners must take special precautions to remove chloramines.

There will be a one-time repaving fee of $200.00 charged to individuals whose water or sewer tap requires cutting into an asphalt street.
A deposit on new residential accounts of $50.00 for water and $50.00 for sewer is required with your Application for Utility Service. This deposit is refundable, upon request. No interest will accrue to the customer on deposits.

A one-time availability fee will be charged to individuals who place an additional demand on the water or sewer systems. This fee, based upon the Discharge Schedule of the N.C. Department of Natural Resources and Community Development, is $.80/sq. ft. heated space for water, and $.80/sq. ft. heated space for sewer
The Town's Water and Sewer Use Ordinance requires that every water consumer install a private water cut-off valve, of curb-stop quality, immediately on the consumer's side of the water meter, which shall be protected from the elements in a suitable manner. A pressure reduction valve with pressure gauge shall be installed on the consumer's side of the water meter.
In order to protect the water supply of the Town of Beech Mountain and thereby insure the availability of water for human needs, all utility customers are required to turn water service off using their private cut-off valve when the structure will be unoccupied for more than three days between October 1 and April 30.
