New Garbage Bin Regulations

In an effort to keep the town clean, new standards have been adopted for the design of garbage bins.  If your garbage bin must be replaced because it is unserviceable, or if you need a new bin, it must be built to these standards, which include the requirement for lids. Also, underground bins are no longer allowed beginning November 1, 2010.   New garbage bin specifications can be found HERE.   For more information and a complete copy of the new standards, contact the Planning and Inspections department at 828-387-4236.

Bow/ Crossbow Ordinance

To protect our residents and visitors, the Town has recently prohibited the use of bows or crossbows within the town limits.  Violations of this ordinance will result in a minimum penalty of a Class 3 misdemeanor and a fine of $50.

Fencing Ordinance

The Town requires all residents with fences or who wish to install fences to follow the guidelines detailed in the Town's Code of Ordinances. Click HERE, call 828-387-4236 or stop by Town Hall for more information.

Painting New Standpipes

As the Town works on replacing Standpipes on many residential lots, the concern over appearance has arisen. Click HERE for instructions on how to best deal with the issue.

Permits Required for Signs

All town residents wishing to cut trees on their property must obtain a permit from the Planning and Inspection Department. Permits can be found HERE, or at Town Hall. Click HERE for a copy of the Tree Cutting Ordinance. 

All signs posted within Town Limits are also required to have a permit. A copy of the permit can be found HERE or at Town Hall.
